Covid awareness campaign banned after civil servants deemed the word “Christmas” offensive to minority faiths.

In an attempt to avoid a winter Covid crisis, civil servants have forbidden the use of the phrase “Christmas” in adverts out of concern that it might upset minority faiths.

The Ban, which was disclosed in emails obtained by The Mail on Sunday, came as Boris Johnson proposed harsher travel restrictions and new mask laws in an effort to stem the spread of the new Omicron strain.

Ministers had also prepared a public awareness campaign encouraging students to be tested before going home for Christmas, with the tagline “Don’t take Covid home for Christmas,” but Cabinet Office officials blocked it.

The action ignited a debate over ‘wokeism’ in the Civil Service, which has been mocked as ‘The Blob,’ with one Muslim Tory MP calling the woke word ban ‘ridiculous.’
