Joe Biden sends a delegation of US lawmakers to intervene with Northern Ireland protocol talks.

The decision comes after Foreign Secretary Liz Truss revealed plans to rewrite portions of the Northern Ireland Protocol.

In a recent statement, EU Vice-President Maros Sefcovic warned that the EU will take retaliatory action against the UK if Liz Truss implements her plans.

As a consequence of the escalating hostilities, President Joe Biden has decided to assembled a “high-level committee of US lawmakers”.

According to Politico, the lawmakers are scheduled to visit Brussels, the United Kingdom, and Ireland later this week.

Northern Ireland minister Conor Burns told reporters after meeting with US colleagues in Washington last week that it seemed the lawmakers in the United States were warming to the United Kingdom’s stance on the Protocol.

Mr Johnson’s statements, however, followed an order from the White House, which instructed him to find a “pragmatic” solution to their disagreements.

The spokesperson stated: “The best path forward is a pragmatic one that requires courage, cooperation, and leadership.”

“We urge the parties to continue engaging in dialogue to resolve differences and bring negotiations to a successful conclusion.”

Speaking before Parliament on Tuesday to explain why the Protocol needs to be altered, Ms Truss stated that the Good Friday Agreement was “under strain.”

Ms Truss said: “Regrettably, the Northern Ireland Executive has not been fully functioning since early February.”

“This is because the Northern Ireland Protocol does not have the support necessary in one part of the community in Northern Ireland.”

Truss continued to say the British government wanted a “negotiated outcome” with the EU, also asserting that the planned measure are “consistent with our international obligations.”

Liz Truss continued to say, There is no intention of “scrapping the Protocol.”
