Transgender students at Warwick University chased after Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi, who was escorted away by security personnel. According to The Telegraph, by characterising women as “adult human females,” Nadhim Zahawi has been accused of “inciting hatred”.
Protesters chanted: “Zahawi is a transphobe” and “Tory Scum” when they confronted the Education Secretary at Warwick University, where he was scheduled to speak Friday.
Security officers had to escort the Cabinet minister from campus after he was followed by protestors waving transgender pride flags and posters.
The controversy started when the Conservative Association at Warwick University, one of the top 24 universities in the United Kingdom, requested him to speak to students.
Warwick Pride then published an open letter condemning Mr Zahawi for “inciting hatred”. Claimed that his presence on campus violated student union by-laws on equality and diversity by the society for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and asexual/aromantic students at Warwick University.
Also, the students alleged that he used “the common transphobic dog whistle ‘adult human female'” while discussing the Labour Party’s confusion about whether a woman may have a penis last month and when he articulated his definition of a woman.
About 30 students gathered outside the lecture hall where Mr Zahawi spoke and yelled “Tory scum” after their failed effort to have him de-platformed by complaining to the student union. Eyewitnesses said that they were slamming on the doors and shouting.
Videos acquired by The Telegraph show members of the Conservative Association chasing Education Secretary Michael Gove as he exited a second session on campus after two hours.
