At least 30 people injured and one dead after a car ploughed into a crowd of shoppers in Berlin.

Reports shortly came in soon after 10:30am saying one man had been killed, according to a fire department official. According to witnesses a silver-colored Renault Clio ploughed into a crowd of pedestrians shopping in Western Berlin, Tauentzienstraße.

Douglas’s storefront glass was wiped out when the automobile smashed through it. Berlin Police spokeswoman Thilo Cablitz said it was still not clear whether the incident was accidental or deliberate.

The driver of the vehicle has been taken into custody. This incident is similar to that of 2016, when Anis Amri, a failed Tunisian asylum seeker with Islamist ties, attacked a busy Christmas market in western Berlin, killing 11 people and wounding scores more that took place at the same location.

On Twitter actor John Barrowman posted a video showing what went on after he witnessed the event.

He said: “Update from the horrible situation in Berlin…We are ok. Jb.”

“We’ve seen a car that came down the road and ended up in a storefront covering three city blocks.

“It’s pretty horrific.”
