High Court Legal challenges stop the deportation of asylum seekers leaving the UK.

Just as the government was ready to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda, a lawyer from the Home Office has said that due to a plea to the high court, they have cancelled the removal order for three out of four asylum seekers.

High Court Legal challenges stop the deportation of asylum seekers leaving the UK.

Matthew Gullick QC the Home Office lawyer said: “The defendant submits that no order for interim relief should be made – either at the individual level, to prevent the removal of the first claimant, or at the wider level sought by the claimants, i.e. to prevent the removal of any asylum seeker to Rwanda who has not provided ‘informed consent’.”

“Neither such order is justified.”

This follows reports showing an increase in legal challenges on behalf of those who have received removal notices from the Home Office saying that they would be deported from the UK on June 14th 2022.

Running alongside these legal obstructions is a challenge from the Public and Commercial Services union (PSC) who represent 80% of the Border Force staff, as well as refugee charities and campaign groups including Care4Calais, Asylum Aid and Detention Action.

Even Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream and Postcode Lottery have joined in the push to stop illegal migrants being removed from the UK.
