Ed Miliband told BBC One’s Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg programme it is a “moral responsibility” for the UK to pay other countries affected by the climate crisis.
Asked if a Labour government would pay reparations to developing countries for climate change, Mr Miliband said: “I don’t see it as reparations and when you talk to a lot of campaigners, they don’t see it as loss and damage.
“This is about the fact that poorer countries facing massive effects of climate change.
“This is about poorer countries on the frontline of the climate crisis.
The host pointed out: “Except China is part of the group of countries that is asking for ‘loss and damage’ to the use the Cop term.
“The MP added: “I promise you, it’s not about giving money to China that’s not what this is about.
“It’s about countries like the Maldives, Pakistan and others.
Rishi Sunak will urge world leaders to move “further and faster” in transitioning away from damaging fossil fuels as he pledges to make the UK a “clean energy superpower”.
