Three weeks before the 2020 US presidential election, the New York Post revealed the private emails of Hunter Biden, the son of then-Democratic candidate Joe Biden.
One day after revealing the so-called “Twitter files,” Elon Musk declared that Twitter’s censorship of Hunter Biden’s laptop story is the “definition of election interference.”
In a chat on Twitter Spaces, the billionaire who bought Twitter five weeks earlier said that Twitter was working on behalf of the Democratic National Committee ahead of the 2020 presidential elections.
Musk said It was ludicrous that Twitter was behaving like an extension of the Democratic National Committee.
He said: “This is not a North Korea tour guide situation, you get to go anywhere you want, whenever you want, however you want. I’m not controlling the narrative.
” It’s evident that there’s been a lot of information control, suppression of information, even things that influenced elections, and it all has to be…you simply want the material out there.”
The Hunter Biden story was revealed on Twitter in a lengthy thread by freelance writer Matt Taibbi, a contributor of Rolling Stones magazine, whose research was publicised by Elon Musk more than an hour earlier.
The network was given access to confidential internal files.
What has emerged is a structured system of control and revision of tweets, even in response to detailed requests from Washington: Taibbi assumes that both parties had a direct relationship with Twitter’s control team, and that the White House itself, under Donald Trump, had made requests to censor some posts and accounts, which were “accepted and satisfied.”
However, the writer claims that the “reviewers” would have unbalanced their influence in favour of the Democrats since the great majority of workers were “donors to the Democratic campaign.”
