In the Conservative Party, the appointment of US Congressman Joe Kennedy as the US Special Envoy to Northern Ireland is claimed to have “ruffled feathers.”

79 percent of respondents replied yes when asked “Do you agree that President Joe Biden should not interfere over the future of Northern Ireland.”

Only 10% of respondents replied “no,” and 11% indicated they were unsure.

This comes after it was revealed that US Congressman Joe Kennedy had been named the US Special Envoy to Northern Ireland by Vice President Biden.

Since Mick Mulvaney resigned in January 2021, at the conclusion of Donald Trump’s administration, the post has been vacant.

The action is seen as an effort to exert pressure on the UK to give up to Brussels’ demands that the province effectively become under its control and separate from Britain.

Joe Kennedy III, a former congressman and great-grandson of the original Joe Kennedy, who served as ambassador to the UK, is the grandson of Bobby Kennedy.

The Conservative Party has reacted angrily to the nomination, with one source telling Express that it is a “complete wind up for the Conservative party” and that it has “ruffled loads of feathers already.”

The source referred to Mr Biden as a “complete republican” and said there had already been “plenty of rumblings” around his choice.

Mr Kennedy has close ties to Sinn Fein and is a member of the Irish American lobby, both of which have influenced Democratic policy to take a pro-EU stance on the contentious Northern Ireland protocol issue.
