“Your country needs you” - Nigel Farage urged by Widdecombe to return and finish the job he started with Brexit

“Your country needs you” – Nigel Farage urged by Widdecombe to return and finish the job he started with Brexit

Ann Widdecombe, a staunch supporter of Brexit, recently called on Nigel Farage to stage a spectacular comeback to the political arena so that he may complete the work that he began.

And the former member of parliament for the Conservative Party and a former member of the European Parliament for the Brexit Party has said that she would think about running again if the conditions were favourable.

Also this week, the EU’s Brexit negotiator, Maros Sefcovic, met with the United Kingdom’s Foreign Secretary James Cleverly and Northern Ireland Secretary Chris Heaton-Harris in an effort to resolve once and for all issues pertaining to the Northern Ireland Protocol.

This protocol is the mechanism that is intended to prevent a hard border from being built on the island of Ireland.

The discussion took place just a few days after a survey that had been published in the Sunday Telegraph the previous weekend revealed that 33 percent of Tory voters now felt that leaving the EU has caused more issues than it has solved.

Ann Widdecombe, in an interview with Express, discussed the most recent polling results as well as Nigel Farage: “I don’t believe that the Brexit Party should have dissolved quite as quickly as it did.”

Ms Widdecombe said that in most cases, individuals outlast their causes; but, in the case of the Brexit Party, this had been the “exact opposite.”

Ms Widdecombe went on to say: “The Brexit Party ran its course then but unfortunately that wasn’t that.”

“Mr Farage thought he had won the Brexit war and reasoned it was now up to others to build on that, Ms Widdecombe suggested.”

“But unfortunately, I think the legacy of Brexit has been so badly betrayed, that we need do somebody yelling the benefits of Brexit.”

She added: “I don’t think we’re going back into the EU, I think that’s a nonsense.”

“What we actually need is a standard bearer, who will be shouting the odds.”

“I still think it’s got to be Farage, because we need I think to hear from somebody who people trust on this issue, and they do trust Farage on the Brexit issue.”

Since Ms Widdecombe is a staunch opponent of proportional representation, she made it clear that she would never consider joining the Reform Party, which is headed by Richard Tice and morphed from the Brexit Party.

Mr Farage, who currently does his own programme on GB News – but Ms Widdecombe did not believe this would be a problem. In her words: “He can use his media career. GB News is very sympathetic to Brexit. Come back, Nigel, your country needs you!”
