Sunak warned EU taking critical UK fish as British fishermen ‘screwed over’ by bureaucracy
Spurdog – also known as Rock Salmon – has been in decline for years, causing the EU to ban fishermen from catching it until the start of this year, but the UK has not yet introduced legislation allowing its fishermen to catch the species.
The UK Government has been blasted by Conservative and Labour MPs alike for allowing EU fishermen to take essential UK fish.
The EU, however, has been allowed to access the Spurdog market since 1st January 2023. Tory MP Peter Aldous and Labour MP Luke Pollard have both raised the issue, with the latter warning the legislative failure is ‘screwing over’ British fishermen.
He said he is concerned that the UK fish policy will be set at a continuing pace behind EU fish policy. We want to do that as quickly as possible to allow people to get out there and catch Spurdog.
Why has the EU got any say at all in British fisheries, or anything to do with our rules and regulations? we have left the EU, at least, that was the democratic outcome of the referendum, or am I missing something here?
It never fails to amaze me, how politicians drag their feet when it comes to UK over EU interest. Almost looks like they don’t want to leave.
Wef puppet still working against this country in favour of the eu.
