The National Grid of Great Britain (NG.L) said on Sunday that it has made a request for three coal-powered generators to be warmed up in preparation for the possibility that they would be required as the nation experiences a cold snap.
According to a statement made by National Grid, “This notification is not confirmation that these units will be used on Monday, but that they will be available to the ESO (Electricity System Operator), if required.”
The last time coal-powered generators were placed on standby in December, when temperatures began to drop and an increase in the demand for electricity occurred, but those generators were not required at that time.
