In an effort to save the Conservative Party from further decline and feuds, some conservatives are pushing for Priti Patel to take up the role of Party Chairman after Nadhim Zahawi, the former party chairman, was publicly sacked over a serious breach of the ministerial code regarding his personal tax arrangements.
Senior party members think this could help claw back a decline in party support and possibly increase their polling, which currently stands at 21 points according to a recent poll.
They also hope that with Priti Patel in the position of Party Chair, it will heal the backlash with members over Rishi Sunak being installed without a vote of support from the party base.
This push comes after Priti Patel, the former Home Secretary, was made the new face of the CDO (Conservative Democratic Organisation) which is pushing for total party reform to ensure party members always have a say in who becomes party leader.
It’s being reported that Priti Patel is “open to the idea” of taking up the role of Party Chairman, with one senior conservative MP saying Priti Patel is “the golden thread who can weave together the party membership, parliamentary party, and party leadership again.”
While the Conservatives seek to heal divisions within their own political party, divisions outside the party bubble are even trickier, especially after confidence collapsed in Sunak’s ability to defend the UK from illegal invaders who land in Britain daily at the cost of the hard-hit taxpayer.
