Zelensky thanks “Britain in advance” for fighter Jets

During an unexpected visit to London, the wartime leader delivered an address to MPs at Westminster Hall.

Volodymyr Zelensky today begged with Rishi Sunak to send “wings for freedom” in the form of combat planes to beat Vladimir Putin. In a speech to Parliament, Ukrainian President Volodymyr  Zelensky thanked the United Kingdom for its assistance in the face of Russia’s invasion.

In a plea to the West, he gave a Ukrainian fighter ace’s helmet to Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle, saying more aircraft were required to battle Mr Putin’s army.

According to Mr. Zelensky: “I appeal to you and the world with simple and yet most important words: combat aircraft for Ukraine, wings for freedom.”

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has already stated his intention to train Ukrainian pilots.

The step lays the path for them to someday fly sophisticated Nato-standard planes, although this is considered as a long-term goal.

It comes after the UK became the first Western country to give Ukraine new tanks as Kyiv fights back against Moscow’s forces.

Mr Zelensky completed his parliamentary statement by thanking Britain “in advance” for fighter jets.

He stated: “Thank you for your attention, thank you for your support. And leaving British Parliament two years ago I thanked you for delicious English tea.

“And I will be leaving the Parliament today thanking all of you in advance for powerful English planes.”
