According to government data, 204 individuals travelled on Tuesday on five vessels, bringing the overall 2023 number to 2,517.

This is over a thousand more crossings than there were in January and February of 2022 as a whole (1,482).

2023’s busiest day so far saw 321 migrants transported to the UK in eight vessels on January 25.

However, August 22 of last year, when 1,295 individuals came, continues to be the busiest day on record.

In January, the Home Office took over control of Channel crossings after the Royal Navy had been in charge for eight months.
