An expert has issued a warning that China’s denials regarding the possibility of a Covid pandemic caused by a laboratory leak must be challenged.
This comes amid concerns that Britain is overlooking evidence to avoid offending Beijing, as diplomatic relations are strained over the Ukraine war.
Colonel Hamish de Bretton-Gordon, a chemical and biological expert and former commander of the UK’s Joint Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Regiment, has called for a transparent investigation into the origins of Covid-19.
He argues that failing to hold China accountable would be misguided diplomacy, and that the UK and other nations must demand greater oversight of laboratories worldwide.
While concerns have been raised that Britain is suppressing claims about the laboratory leak to prevent a diplomatic fallout, Colonel de Bretton-Gordon urges governments not to avoid criticism of China for political or commercial reasons.
